On 31 July 2024, the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) hosted a distinguished citizens’ meeting at Hotel Royal De Casa in Guwahati, where senior members and representatives from the AAGSU, Assam Gorkha Sammelan, and the Gorkha Development Council gathered to discuss critical issues impacting the Gorkha community in Sixth Schedule areas. The meeting was chaired by AAGSU President Sunil Chetry, highlighting the significance of collaborative efforts to address the community’s unique concerns and challenges.

A key topic was the drafting of a proposal to establish a coordination committee aimed at supporting the upcoming 125th Amendment of the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. This committee would play a vital role in advocating for fair representation and the protection of the Gorkha community’s rights and resources within Sixth Schedule areas.
