Silapathar, 6 January: The Dhemaji District Committee of the All Assam Gorkha StudentsтАЩ Union (AAGSU) announced that it will organise a Massive Protest Meeting on January 11, 2026, at Gorkha Bhawan, Silapathar, to highlight several long-standing and serious issues affecting the people of Assam, particularly those residing in border and N.C. areas.
Speaking ahead of the programme, leaders of AAGSU stated that the protest aims to draw the urgent attention of the state and central governments towards the unresolved AssamтАУArunachal Pradesh border dispute, which continues to create uncertainty, insecurity and repeated difficulties for residents living along the border. The union reiterated its demand for a permanent, clear and acceptable solution to the dispute in order to ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
Another major issue to be raised during the protest is the long-pending survey of N.C. (Non-Cadastral) villages and the immediate distribution of land pattas to genuine landholders. AAGSU leaders pointed out that the lack of proper land documentation has left thousands of families vulnerable to displacement and deprived them of their basic rights. They stressed that land pattas are essential for protecting livelihoods and ensuring social security.
The organisation also expressed serious concern over alleged attempts by people from Arunachal Pradesh to purchase land in Assam at high prices with the intention of later including those areas within Arunachal territory. AAGSU warned that such activities pose a threat to AssamтАЩs land, demographic balance and territorial integrity, and demanded strict monitoring and regulation of land transactions in sensitive border areas.
In this context, the All Assam Gorkha StudentsтАЩ Union has issued a strong appeal to students, youths, intellectuals, social organisations and the general public to participate actively and in large numbers in the January 11 protest meeting. The union emphasised that collective and democratic participation is crucial to safeguard land rights, protect AssamтАЩs boundaries and ensure justice for affected communities.
The proposed protest meeting is expected to witness wide participation and serve as a united platform to voice public demands before the concerned authorities.

Report: Dilip Khanal- General Secretary, Dhemaji District Committee (AAGSU).
