Golaghat, Oct 11, 2025: The Golaghat Colleges’ Unit of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) successfully organized its 19th Gorkha Students’ Social Meet at the District Library Auditorium. The event, aimed at welcoming and orienting the new batch of students from the Gorkha community, featured a vibrant cultural program and strong participation from social and student leaders.

The formal session was hosted by Nikhil Upadhaya (President, GCU), following the welcome address by Uday Subba (General Secretary, GCU) and a cultural presentation by Sarita Limbu (Vice President, GCU). The program commenced with a silent prayer and a tribute to renowned singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg.
The Chief Guest of the event was Shri Meghraj Sonar (President, AAGSU, Golaghat District Committee), with Rudra Chetry (General Secretary, AAGSU, Golaghat District Committee) and Shri Moni Kr. Limbu (AGS, AAGSU) in attendance. Dr. Roshan Sarma (HOD, Botany, DR College) and Him Kr. Ghimire (Assistant Audit Officer) contributed as resource persons. Student leadership was represented by Shri Mintu Gogoi (President, AASU, Golaghat District Committee). Other notable attendees included representatives from social and literary organizations such as Shri K.P. Thapa Magar (General Secretary, Asom Gorkha Sammelan) and Shri Sobitman Bista (General Secretary, Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha).
The cultural program showcased traditional Nepali dances like Maruni and Khukuri Nritya, along with Bihu dance and other performances. Sir Binod Gurung’s impromptu dance delighted the audience, while singers Laxman Shrestha, Ankur Subba, and Siddharth Tamang mesmerized attendees with their melodious songs.
Distinguished guests emphasized academic excellence, unity, and responsible citizenship, encouraging freshers to make the most of the college platform while staying rooted in their cultural values. The event concluded as a resounding success, leaving the students motivated and inspired.
