Haflong, June 2026: The All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Dima Hasao District Committee, accorded a warm felicitation to Shri Prem Tamang, Chairman of the Gorkha Development Council, during a cordial meeting held recently. The interaction provided an important platform for meaningful discussions on issues concerning the development, welfare, and future aspirations of the Gorkha community in Dima Hasao district.
Representing the AAGSU Dima Hasao District Committee, District President Kailash Gharti and Vice-President Vishal Sharma met the Chairman and conveyed the concerns, expectations, and aspirations of the Gorkha community, particularly focusing on the needs of students and youth in the district. The leaders highlighted several challenges faced by the community and emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure inclusive development and greater opportunities for future generations.
During the discussion, various matters relating to education, youth empowerment, skill development, employment opportunities, and socio-economic progress were deliberated upon in detail. The representatives stressed the need for enhanced educational support, improved access to developmental schemes, and initiatives aimed at empowering young people through leadership, entrepreneurship, and career-oriented programmes.
Shri Prem Tamang attentively listened to the issues and suggestions presented by the district committee. He shared his valuable insights on community development and reiterated the commitment of the Gorkha Development Council towards addressing the needs and aspirations of the Gorkha population. He also encouraged community organizations and youth bodies to continue working collectively for the advancement of society while preserving the rich cultural heritage and identity of the Gorkha community.

Speaking on the occasion, District President Kailash Gharti stated that the interaction was highly productive and provided an opportunity to place before the Chairman several important issues affecting students and youth. Vice-President Vishal Sharma also emphasized the importance of strengthening community engagement and ensuring that developmental initiatives effectively reach deserving beneficiaries at the grassroots level.
