Karbi Anglong, 25 August 2026: The All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Borjan Regional Committee, organised a Free Blood Donation Camp on the solemn occasion of the 82nd Balidan Diwas of Major Durga Malla. The AAGSU Karbi Anglong District Committee actively participated in the humanitarian initiative.

The camp was organised with the noble objective of contributing towards saving precious human lives and creating greater awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation. Several student organisations, community members, social workers and well-wishers attended the programme, with many participants voluntarily donating blood in support of the cause.

The occasion also served as an opportunity to remember Major Durga Malla, the brave Gorkha soldier and proud officer of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army (INA). Major Durga Malla dedicated his life to India’s freedom struggle and demonstrated exceptional courage, patriotism and devotion to the nation. Captured by the British, he was executed on 25 August 1944 in Delhi. His supreme sacrifice continues to be remembered every year on Balidan Diwas as a symbol of Gorkha bravery, patriotism and sacrifice for the nation.

The programme was successfully conducted under the leadership of Shri Suraj Gautam, President, and Shri Rudra Chetry, Secretary, AAGSU Borjan Regional Committee, along with the entire committee. Their collective efforts in organising the blood donation camp were highly appreciated and reflected the spirit of social responsibility and service to humanity.

The AAGSU Karbi Anglong District Committee was represented by Shri Narayan Rayamajhi, President; Shri Sanju Gorkha Chhetry, Secretary; Shri Durga Rai, Assistant General Secretary; Shri Ajit Sampang Rai, Organising Secretary; Shri Ankit Rai, Organising Secretary; and Shri Goman Chetri, Finance Secretary.

The participation of the District Committee members reflected AAGSU’s commitment to the welfare and unity of the Gorkha community as well as broader humanitarian and social causes.

The event concluded with a strong message of service, sacrifice and social responsibility. Remembering Major Durga Malla through an initiative dedicated to saving human lives made the occasion particularly meaningful and served as a fitting tribute to his courage, patriotism and supreme sacrifice for the nation.
