On October 5, 2024, a significant series of joint meetings were held at Hotel Royal de Casa, focusing on the development of the Gorkha community in Assam.
The first meeting brought together the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) President Sunil Chetry and the Gorkha Autonomous Council Demand Committee (GACDC) President Harka Bahadur Chetri, along with delegations from both committees. They engaged in productive discussions regarding various political issues affecting the Gorkha community. Key topics included the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. The meeting concluded successfully, with both parties resolving to collaborate closely on community issues, including the demands of the GACDC.
The second meeting involved leaders from the AAGSU and the Gorkha Development Council (GDC), including AAGSU President Sunil Chetry and GDC Chairman Prem Tamang. This meeting addressed various issues concerning the development of the Gorkha community in Assam, emphasizing the need to resolve matters with the government amicably, particularly in relation to funding.
The discussions highlighted the ongoing development work being carried out by the Gorkha Development Council, alongside initiatives aimed at empowering youth and women in the community. The presence of key figures, including GDC Chairman Prem Tamang, Vice Chairman Ram Dahal, and AAGSU officials, emphasized the commitment to fostering unity and collaboration within the Gorkha community.
These meetings mark an important step toward sustained development and progress for the Gorkha community in Assam, laying the groundwork for future cooperation and mutual support.
