On 18 July 2026, representatives of the All Assam Gorkha StudentsтАЩ Union (AAGSU), Dibrugarh District Committee and Dibrugarh Town Committee visited Borbari Police Station in connection with the tragic road accident that occurred on 17 July in the Chiring Chapori area of Dibrugarh, in which 21-year-old Sushmita Chetry, a resident of Margherita, lost her life on the spot. The delegation gathered information regarding the incident and also met the bereaved family members to convey their heartfelt condolences.
The delegation comprised Mr. Bijoy Thapa, Chief Volunteer, AAGSU Dibrugarh District Committee; Mr. Ayush Sharma, IT Secretary, AAGSU Dibrugarh District Committee; Mr. Sanju Chetry, Executive Member, AAGSU Dibrugarh District Committee; and Mr. Sanjay Darjee, President, AAGSU Dibrugarh Town Committee.
Police officials informed the delegation that a case has already been registered in connection with the incident and that the accused has been arrested. They further stated that the investigation is ongoing in accordance with the law and that the police administration is taking all necessary measures to ensure justice.
The delegation demanded the strictest possible action against the accused and called for exemplary punishment. They also urged the Government and the concerned authorities to ensure that the family of late Sushmita Chetry receives all eligible compensation, assistance, and benefits without delay.
