DIGBOI, Feb 18: In a spirited move to promote local sports and honor the legacy of a regional hero, the Digboi Regional Committee of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) has announced the commencement of the “Freedom Fighter Bhakta Bahadur Pradhan Trophy.” This high-stakes prize money cricket tournament is scheduled to begin on February 22 at the Kherjan Playground in Digboi, promising a thrilling display of talent and sportsmanship.
The tournament is organized as a tribute to the late freedom fighter Bhakta Bahadur Pradhan, aiming to keep his memory alive among the youth while providing a professional platform for aspiring cricketers in the region. By naming the trophy after such a distinguished figure, AAGSU Digboi seeks to inspire the younger generation with the values of dedication and community service through the medium of sports.
The organizers have set an impressive prize pool to ensure a high level of competition throughout the event. The championship-winning team will be awarded a prestigious trophy along with a cash prize of ₹25,000, while the runners-up will receive a trophy and ₹15,000. In addition to the team awards, several individual categories have been established to recognize exceptional performances on the field. The ‘Man of the Series’ and ‘Player of the Match’ will both be honored with trophies and cash rewards of ₹1,000 each. Furthermore, the ‘Best Bowler’ will receive a trophy and ₹1000, while the ‘Best Fielder’ and the ‘Man of the Match’ for every individual game will be presented with commemorative trophies.
With the tournament set to begin this coming Sunday, February 22, the registration process is currently in full swing with a participation fee of ₹2,000 per team. The AAGSU Digboi Regional Committee has extended a warm invitation to all sports enthusiasts, local residents, and supporters to gather at the Kherjan Playground to witness the matches and cheer for the local talent.
