Tinsukia, Feb 1: The Finance Secretary of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) Central Committee, Shri Santosh Chetry, attended the open session of the 21st Adivasi Mahasabha, which was held from January 29 to February 1, 2026, at Borgolai Bashbari Field in Tinsukia district. The four-day programme was organised by the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) with the participation of thousands of delegates, students, social workers and representatives from various communities across the state.
The 21st Adivasi Mahasabha emerged as a significant platform for discussion on the social, educational, cultural and constitutional rights of the Adivasi community in Assam. The open session witnessed a vibrant gathering, reflecting unity, awareness and a collective resolve to address long-standing issues concerning identity, development and social justice.
Shri Santosh Chetry, representing the AAGSU Central Committee, attended the open session as part of inter-community outreach and solidarity. His presence was seen as a gesture of mutual respect and cooperation between student and social organisations working for the rights and upliftment of indigenous and marginalised communities in Assam. During interactions on the sidelines of the programme, Shri Chetry exchanged views with student leaders and organisers on issues related to education, youth empowerment and inclusive development.
The event featured cultural programmes showcasing Adivasi traditions, folk dances, songs and customs, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the community. Seminars and discussions were also organised during the Mahasabha, focusing on education, employment, constitutional safeguards and socio-economic challenges faced by the Adivasi people. Speakers emphasised unity among different communities and stressed the importance of collective efforts to ensure equality and dignity for all sections of society.
Organised by the All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA), the Mahasabha was marked by disciplined management and enthusiastic participation. The organisers reiterated their commitment to continue democratic and peaceful movements for the protection of Adivasi rights and to strengthen student unity across Assam.
The participation of the AAGSU Central Committee’s Finance Secretary was welcomed by the organisers and participants, who viewed it as a positive step towards building stronger bonds among student organisations. Such interactions, they said, contribute to mutual understanding and coordinated efforts in addressing common challenges faced by students and youth in the state.
The programme concluded on February 1 with a renewed call for solidarity, social harmony and inclusive progress. On the occasion, a message of goodwill and solidarity — “Johar to all” — was extended, symbolising respect, unity and shared aspirations among the diverse communities of Assam.
