
Kamrup, June 21: The Fourth Biennial Convention of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Kamrup District Committee, along with a Students’ Felicitation Programme, was successfully held at Rajapara Gorkha Bhawan on Sunday. The event witnessed the participation of students, delegates, community leaders, distinguished guests, and well-wishers from different parts of the district.
The day-long programme commenced at 9:00 AM with the hoisting of the AAGSU flag by Kamrup District Committee President Gobinda Sharma. The convention was formally inaugurated through the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by General Secretary Amar Sunar.
A Students’ Felicitation Programme was organised at 11:00 AM to honour meritorious students for their academic achievements. The programme was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Arjun Chetry, Executive Member of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council; Gopal Sharma, Member of Gorkha Sanmelan; Nilkanta Kambar, Principal of Hekra Higher Secondary School; retired teacher Nanda Kumar Chetry; Kamrup District Gorkha Kalyan Samity General Secretary Sambhu Chetry; and former AAGSU Kamrup District Committee President Bhupen Thapa, among others.
A total of 28 students who excelled in various examinations were felicitated during the programme. In addition, two successful candidates of the Ayurvedic Doctor Examination and one student who qualified for JEE Advanced were also specially honoured for their outstanding accomplishments.
Addressing the gathering, the guests congratulated the students and praised their dedication, perseverance, and hard work. They encouraged the awardees to continue striving for excellence and contribute positively to society while inspiring future generations.
Following the felicitation programme, the Fourth Biennial District Convention commenced at 3:00 PM in the presence of delegates, committee members, and observers from the AAGSU Central Committee. The observers included Central Committee Vice President Raju Bajgai, Assistant General Secretary Ram Shreshta, and John Chauhan.
During the convention, participants deliberated on various organisational matters, reviewed the committee’s achievements, discussed future programmes, and explored ways to strengthen the organisation’s role in promoting the welfare of students and the Gorkha community.
A panel constituted for the selection of the new office bearers re-elected Gobinda Sharma as President and Amar Sunar as General Secretary for the next term. The convention also approved the selection of 21 new members to strengthen the district committee and further the objectives of the organisation.
Delegates and members welcomed the continuation of the existing leadership and expressed confidence that the newly constituted committee would work with dedication and commitment towards the progress of students, the organisation, and the Gorkha community as a whole.
The convention concluded successfully with a vote of thanks extended to all guests, observers, delegates, committee members, volunteers, students, and participants for their valuable support and cooperation in making the programme a grand success.
