
Mahur, June 14: The 3rd Biennial Conference of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Mahur Regional Committee, was successfully held on Sunday at the Jangali Basti Gorkha Community Hall, Mahur, bringing together delegates, former office bearers, social workers, community leaders, well-wishers, Goan bura’s of the greater Mahur and members of the Gorkha community. The conference comprised a Delegate Session and an Open Session and concluded with the election of a new regional committee for the tenure ahead.
The programme commenced with the ceremonial hoisting of the AAGSU flag by outgoing Regional Committee President, Sri Sagar Gurung. The flag-hoisting ceremony marked the formal inauguration of the conference and symbolized the organizationтАЩs continued commitment towards educational advancement, social development, and the welfare of the Gorkha community.
Following the inaugural ceremony, Sri Sagar Gurung delivered the welcome address, extending greetings to all distinguished guests, delegates, and participants.
The Delegate Session was conducted under the supervision of official observers from the AAGSU Dima Hasao District Committee. The observer team consisted of Sri Vishal Sharma, Vice-President; Smti Sagun Chetri, Secretary; Sri Rohit Joishi, Sports Secretary; and Sri Hemu Joishi, Medical Secretary. Their presence ensured the smooth and transparent conduct of the proceedings.
During the session, outgoing General Secretary Sri Rajen Chetri presented the biennial report (Sambhedan) of the Mahur Regional Committee covering the period from 2024 to 2026. The report outlined the various organizational, educational, social, and community-oriented activities undertaken during the tenure. After detailed discussion and review, the report was unanimously approved by the house.
The Delegate Session further focused on evaluating the achievements and challenges of the outgoing committee while charting future plans for organizational growth and development. Delegates actively participated in discussions concerning student welfare, youth empowerment, educational awareness, and strengthening grassroots organizational structures.
One of the major highlights of the conference was the constitution of the new executive committee of the AAGSU Mahur Regional Committee. Following the completion of the democratic process, Sri Rajen Chetri was elected as the President of the Mahur Regional Committee, while Sri Binod Chetri was entrusted with the responsibility of General Secretary. The newly elected leaders expressed their gratitude to the delegates and assured the gathering that they would work with dedication, sincerity, and unity to further the objectives of AAGSU and serve the interests of students and society.
The Open Session witnessed the participation of several distinguished personalities from different walks of life. The session was graced by Chief Guest Sri Babul Kemprai, HonтАЩble Chairman of the Mahur Municipal Board. Among the Guests of Honour were Smti Sheila Lyngdoh Lama, Head Mistress and social worker; Sri Bishal Sharma, Vice-President of the AAGSU Dima Hasao District Committee; Sri Mon Bahadur Tamang, Vice-Chairman of the Mahur Municipal Board and Gaon Bura of Mahnigaon; Sri Bevakananda Joishi, General Secretary of the AAGSU Dima Hasao District Committee; and Sri Yemlal Ghimire, young entrepreneur and AAGSU member.
Special invitees included Sri Ram Bahadur Tamang, social worker and former Vice-President of the AAGSU District Committee; Smti Nisha Lama, social worker; Sri Rupak Sharma, General Secretary of the AAGSU Haflong Regional Committee; Sri Probin Joishi, Advisor of the AAGSU Haflong Regional Committee; and Sri Debendra Sharma, President of the GSU Haflong College Unit and the Goanbura’s of the Greater Mahur.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries emphasized the importance of education, youth leadership, social responsibility, and organizational unity. They encouraged young people to actively participate in community-building initiatives and highlighted the need to preserve the rich identity, culture, and heritage of the Gorkha community. Speakers also lauded the role played by AAGSU in promoting educational awareness and safeguarding the interests of students across the region.
Following the Open Session, the newly elected office bearers participated in the Sapath Grahan (Oath-Taking Ceremony). The members solemnly pledged to uphold the ideals and objectives of AAGSU and committed themselves to serving the organization with honesty, discipline, dedication, and responsibility.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Sri Rajen Chetri, who expressed sincere appreciation to the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, Special Invitees, District Committee observers, delegates, volunteers, members, and all participants for their invaluable support and cooperation in making the conference a grand success.
The successful completion of the 3rd Biennial Conference of the AAGSU Mahur Regional Committee reflected the unity, commitment, and collective aspirations of the Gorkha community.
