On May 2, 2024, a significant meeting was held at Bodoland University, initiated by the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) Central Committee. This formal and cordial meeting took place with the esteemed Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University, Professor B.L. Ahuja. Representatives from the BTR Regional Committee and the Kokrajhar District Committee were also present.
The primary objective of this meeting was to address the educational needs of Gorkha students and discuss the preservation of books related to Gorkha art, literature, culture, and history in the university library. This historical initiative, led by the AAGSU Central Committee, aims to integrate the cultural and literary heritage of the Gorkha community into the academic environment of the university, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
One of the key topics discussed was the introduction of a postgraduate (PG) program in the Nepali language. Sunil Chhetri, President of the AAGSU Central Committee, emphasized the need for this program to cater to the aspirations and academic requirements of Gorkha students.
The preservation of books related to the Gorkha community in the Bodoland University library is expected to provide essential reference materials for Gorkha students and support their studies. This initiative marks a significant step towards promoting the cultural identity and educational advancement of the Gorkha community at the university level.
