The All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Dima Hasao District Committee, organised a felicitation programme in honour of Shri Prem Tamang, Chairman of the Gorkha Development Council (GDC), during his official visit to Dima Hasao on 30 June 2026 at Haflong.
The programme served as an important platform for interaction between the Chairman and representatives of the District Committee. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the educational status of students in Dima Hasao and the various challenges faced by Gorkha youth in the district. The Committee highlighted several key issues, including the need for improved educational opportunities, career guidance, skill development initiatives, scholarship support, and greater institutional assistance for students from remote areas.
The District Committee also shared its ongoing activities and initiatives undertaken in the fields of education, social welfare, student welfare, and community development. Emphasis was placed on the Committee’s continued efforts to address the concerns of students and encourage greater participation of youth in constructive social and educational activities.
In his address, Shri Prem Tamang appreciated the dedication and commitment of the AAGSU Dima Hasao District Committee towards the welfare of the Gorkha community. He acknowledged the significant role played by the organisation in promoting education, social awareness, and community development across the district. He further encouraged the members to continue working with sincerity and dedication for the betterment of students and society.
The Chairman assured the Committee that the Gorkha Development Council would extend its support towards the educational advancement and welfare of students. He also motivated the youth to pursue academic excellence alongside active participation in sports, stressing that education, discipline, and sports are essential for developing responsible and capable citizens.
The AAGSU Dima Hasao District Committee expressed its sincere gratitude to Shri Prem Tamang for his valuable guidance, encouragement, and assurance of support. The programme concluded with a positive and constructive discussion, reaffirming the shared commitment of both the Gorkha Development Council and AAGSU to work collectively for the educational, social, and overall development of the Gorkha community in Dima Hasao.
