Karbi Anglong, 2026: The Grand Finale of the 4th Gorkha Men’s Football Tournament 2026, organised by the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Bokajan Regional Committee, was successfully concluded with great enthusiasm on the solemn occasion of the 82nd Balidan Diwas of Major Durga Malla.

The programme was graced by Shri Narayan Chetry, President, AAGSU Karbi Anglong District Committee, as the Chief Guest. Shri Madhurjya Dhekial Phukan, Hon’ble Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council and Executive Member (EM), attended the programme as the Guest of Honour.

The event was also attended by office bearers of the AAGSU Karbi Anglong District Committee, including Shri Sanju Chetry, General Secretary; Shri Durga Rai, Assistant General Secretary; Shri Ajit Sampang Rai, Organising Secretary; Shri Ankit Rai, Organising Secretary; and Shri Goman Chetri, Finance Secretary.

Several distinguished guests, including social workers, presidents and secretaries of different student unions, representatives of NGOs, entrepreneurs and other prominent members of society, were also present at the Grand Finale.

The tournament provided an important platform for promoting sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and youth participation. At the same time, the event served as a meaningful occasion to remember and honour the supreme sacrifice of Major Durga Malla, the brave Gorkha soldier and freedom fighter who dedicated his life to the struggle for India’s independence.

The AAGSU Karbi Anglong District Committee appreciated the efforts of the AAGSU Bokajan Regional Committee for successfully organising the tournament and commemorating the 82nd Balidan Diwas of Major Durga Malla with due respect and dignity.

The Grand Finale concluded on a memorable note, reflecting the values of unity, sportsmanship, youth empowerment and patriotism, while paying heartfelt tribute to Major Durga Malla, a brave son of the Gorkha community.
