Umrangso, 29 September 2026: A public hearing concerning JK Lakshmi Cement was conducted at 19 KM, Umrangso, on 29 September 2026 as part of the prescribed public consultation process. The hearing brought together concerned authorities, project representatives, local residents, community representatives and other stakeholders to present their views, observations and concerns regarding the proposed project.
A delegation of the All Assam Gorkha StudentsтАЩ Union (AAGSU) attended the public hearing and observed the proceedings. The delegation comprised Chandan Sharma, General Secretary, Umrangso Regional Committee; Bishnu Upadhaya, AAGSU District Committee Member; Pream Joishi, Vice President, Umrangso Regional Committee; Pritam Nirola, Organising Secretary, Umrangso Regional Committee; and Krishna Parajuli, Vice President, Umrangso Regional Committee.
During the hearing, the AAGSU representatives took note of the matters presented and the views expressed by various stakeholders. The proceedings provided an opportunity to understand the issues associated with the proposed activities of JK Lakshmi Cement and the concerns raised by members of the local community.
The participation of AAGSU reflected the organisationтАЩs continued interest in matters concerning local development, environmental and community-related issues and the welfare of the people of the region. The delegation carefully observed the discussions and representations made during the hearing and recorded the information for organisational reference.
The participation also highlighted AAGSUтАЩs commitment to remaining engaged with important public consultations and developments affecting the local area. The information gathered during the hearing will help the organisation remain informed about developments relating to the proposed project and other matters of public interest in the Umrangso region.
