AAGSU Jorhat District Committee Constituted, Akash Rana Elected President

Jorhat, June 14: A new district committee of the All Assam Gorkha StudentsтАЩ Union (AAGSU) was formally constituted on 14 June 2026 at Jatiya Bhawan, Malow Ali, Jorhat, in the presence of delegates from the AAGSU Central Committee. The committee formation programme was conducted under the supervision of Central Committee representatives Kiran Khadka, Mahesh Sharma and Sanjib Chettri.

The meeting witnessed the participation of students, youth representatives and members from different parts of Jorhat district. Extensive discussions were held on strengthening the organization at the grassroots level, addressing issues concerning the student community and expanding the organizational network across the district.

Following deliberations, a 21-member Jorhat District Committee was unanimously formed. Akash Rana was elected as President, Hemdeep Thapa as Vice President and Asish Sarmah as General Secretary. Keshab Chettri was entrusted with the responsibility of Assistant General Secretary, Suman Sunar was elected as Organising Secretary and Sumon Chettri was appointed as IT Secretary. Other office bearers and executive members were also selected to complete the district committee.

Addressing the gathering, the representatives of the Central Committee emphasized the importance of unity, discipline and active participation in organizational activities. They highlighted the role of students in safeguarding the interests of the Gorkha community and called upon the newly elected members to work with dedication and commitment for the welfare of students and society.

The newly elected office bearers expressed their gratitude to the members for the trust reposed in them and assured that they would work tirelessly to strengthen the organization and uphold its objectives. They also pledged to take forward various educational, social and student welfare initiatives across the district.

As part of the organizational expansion drive, three Anchalik Committees were also constituted under the Jorhat District Committee. These include the Jorhat Anchalik Committee, Mariani Anchalik Committee and Teok Anchalik Committee. The formation of these regional units is expected to further strengthen the organizational structure and enhance coordination among members at the local level.

The programme concluded with a renewed commitment towards organizational growth, student welfare and community development. Participants expressed confidence that the newly formed district and anchalik committees would play a significant role in advancing the aims and objectives of AAGSU in Jorhat district.
