
Guwahati, 27 September: The B. Borooah College Gorkha Students’ Unit organised its first-ever Freshers’ Programme, “Gorkha Freshers 2026 – Ramailo Vhetghat”, on 27 September 2026 at Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir, Uzan Bazar, Guwahati. The programme was organised to warmly welcome the new students and marked a significant milestone in the journey of the unit.
The programme was attended by several distinguished guests, including Prem Tamang, Chairman, Gorkha Development Council; Raju Chetri, Member, Gorkha Development Council; Rajip Thapa, ACS, Joint Secretary, Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Department; Uttam Sharma, President, AAGSU Kamrup Metropolitan District Committee; Gopalraj Sharma, General Secretary; Ome Sharma, Cultural Secretary; Bishnu Chapai, Chief Advisor; Tinku Poudel, Executive Member, AAGSU Central Committee; D.N. Sharma, President, Nepali Sahitya Sabha, Kamrup; Sagar Sharma, General Secretary, Nepali Sanskriti Suraksha Parishad; and singers Jyoti Sharma and Leena Sharma.
Representatives from Cotton University, Gauhati University, Pandu College, RG Baruah College and other educational institutions and student units also attended the programme. Representatives of the B. Borooah College Union Body, including General Secretary Krish Pawe, Vice President Mrinmoy Rajbongshi, Assistant General Secretary Akshita Sharma and Social Services Secretary Anushuman Rabha, were also present. The participation of Mising, BLS, Rabha, Tai Ahom, Manipuri and other college units added diversity and warmth to the celebration.
The programme featured a range of cultural performances, including dance, music and singing, along with various activities for the freshers. Tilok Katwal Chetry was awarded the title of Mr. Fresher, while Yosadha Chetry was crowned Miss Fresher. Bishal Tiwari and Sonam Lama were respectively awarded the titles of Mr. Confident and Miss Confident.
The successful organisation of the programme was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Advisor Anuj Thapa, Advisor Kiran Dangal, President Nilay Upadhyay, General Secretary Simran Raika and the entire team of the B. Borooah College Gorkha Students’ Unit. Cultural Head Cristina Chetry and Cultural Secretaries Amanya Sonar and Sheetal Rai played an important role in coordinating the cultural segment. The programme was anchored by Akshita Sharma and Mohan Chetry, while Ome Sharma and Jyoti Sharma served as judges.
The organisers expressed their sincere gratitude to Ma’am Indu Prabha Devi for her continuous guidance, encouragement and support throughout the preparation of the programme. Appreciation was also extended to the AAGSU Kamrup Metropolitan District Committee, college units, seniors and alumni, performers, guests, well-wishers and everyone who contributed directly or indirectly to the successful completion of the programme.
As the first-ever Freshers’ Programme of the B. Borooah College Gorkha Students’ Unit, “Ramailo Vhetghat” marked the beginning of a new tradition. The programme brought together freshers, seniors, alumni, guests and students from different communities, creating an atmosphere of unity, friendship, cultural pride and togetherness.
