Voluntary Blood Donation Drive & Health Initiative

The All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), Umrangso Regional Committee, in collaboration with Haflong Civil Hospital and with the support of Keshab Smarak Nyas, successfully organized a Voluntary Blood Donation Drive & Health Initiative on 19th July 2026 at Govindanagar Community Hall, Umrangso.

The programme was organized to address crucial blood shortages at Haflong Civil Hospital and to foster health awareness and community welfare across the Dima Hasao region.

The event was attended by Shri Dilip Chetri, Central Executive Member;Shri Mohan Chetri, President; Shri Balaram Sharma, Vice President; Shri Chandan Sharma, General Secretary; Shri Anup Sharma, Office Secretary; Shri Sontosh Gurung, Sports Secretary; AAGSU Umrangso Regional Committee;Shri Aakash Upadhaya, Secretary, AAGSU Dima Hasao District Committee; Shri Bishnu Upadhaya, Shri Prem Joishi, and Shri Ganesh Sharma, District Executive Members. The inspiring presence of Shri Krishna Upadhaya, one of the oldest voluntary blood donors, served as a major highlight and motivated all the participants.

The venue at Govindanagar Community Hall was arranged into distinct stations for donor registration, preliminary health screenings, safe blood extraction, and post-donation recovery. The specialized medical team from Haflong Civil Hospital conducted the entire process following strict hygiene, technical procedures, and clinical safety protocols.

A large number of voluntary donors participated enthusiastically in the drive. To ensure proper donor care, hydration, and recovery, every donor was provided with a refreshment pack consisting of healthy snacks, ORS packets, and Frooti immediately after donation.

The programme successfully contributed to strengthening the blood reserves of Haflong Civil Hospital while spreading vital awareness about the health benefits and critical importance of voluntary blood donation. AAGSU expresses its sincere gratitude to the medical team of Haflong Civil Hospital, Keshab Smarak Nyas, the management of Govindanagar Community Hall, and all the selfless voluntary donors for their invaluable support in making the event a resounding success.
