Tangla, November 10 — In a historic turn of events, Chandan Pradhan, an active member and supporter of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), has made history by winning the Secretary, Gymnasium post in the Tangla College Students’ Union Election 2025–26. This victory is particularly significant as it marks the first time a Gorkha candidate has won an elected post in Tangla College in 44 years. The last Gorkha student to hold an elected position was Krishna Mizar, who served as Cultural Secretary in the 1981–82 session.

The emotional and symbolic importance of this achievement extends beyond the current student body—it represents a collective victory for all former Gorkha students of Tangla College who have long aspired for representation. Despite the challenging demographic scenario—where out of over 4,000 students across B.A., B.Com, B.Sc, and BCA streams, only around 100 belong to the Gorkha community—Chandan Pradhan’s resounding success reflects the spirit of determination, unity, and leadership within the student community.

This landmark achievement is a testament to the unwavering support, guidance, and coordination of the All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU), along with the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and the All Bodo and Boro Youth Students’ Federation (ABBYSF). Their combined efforts and solidarity across communities played a pivotal role in ensuring that the voice of inclusivity and student democracy prevailed.

Members of the AAGSU Tangla College Unit and the AAGSU Tangla Regional Committee dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the campaign. Through tireless door-to-door outreach, systematic coordination, disciplined teamwork, and unshakeable unity, they successfully mobilized support across all sections of the college community. Their commitment was instrumental in reviving the Gorkha presence in the college’s student leadership after more than four decades.

Speaking after the victory, several AAGSU leaders emphasized that this success is not merely an electoral result but a symbol of resurgence and empowerment for Gorkha students in Tangla College. They affirmed that the organization will continue championing student interests through constructive engagement, educational initiatives, and welfare-oriented programs.

The victory of Chandan Pradhan serves as a shining example of how perseverance, unity, and strategic coordination can overcome numerical disadvantages and historical challenges. It has reignited a sense of pride and belonging within the Gorkha community of Tangla and beyond, reinforcing their faith in collective effort and representation.

As Tangla College witnesses this new chapter in its student politics, Chandan Pradhan’s historic victory is being celebrated not only as a personal achievement but as a shared triumph of the entire Gorkha fraternity—a long-awaited moment that bridges generations of aspiration, struggle, and hope.
